At the time, Ruth Ellis was just the fifteenth woman to be sentenced to hang that century.
When she used a .38 Smith and Wesson to kill her violent, cowardly, cheating, money draining lover, she was drinking heavily and was on tranquillisers to ease the pain of a recent miscarriage he had caused by punching her in the stomach.
